HFA Annual Report

2006

In Louisiana, it is common for gardens to experience a regeneration of growth after storms, and the HFA has experienced a similar phenomenon in 2006. HFA has grown by five new Member Organizations, expanded its grant writing and has been fortunate to benefit from the generosity of industry and individuals.

HFA provided its members with a successful Dads in Action training session at its national headquarters. Dads from eleven member organizations were in attendance. The HFA Dads Program sent its facilitators to numerous member organizations for their annual events. HFA’s Focus on the Feminine committee has exhibited at four major Women’s Shows across the country, educating the general public about indicators of bleeding disorders. HFA kicked off its newest program, Blood Brotherhood for adult males. HFA awarded ten educational scholarships to deserving members of the community and brought its Symposium Children’s program to several of its member organizations for their annual meetings. HFA offered financial assistance to 117 families through October 1, through its successful Helping Hands program.

The HFA staff made ten visits to Washington, D.C. in 2006, along with numerous professional and volunteer visits, to ensure that our representatives understand the complex needs of the community. HFA worked in collaboration with other hemophilia organizations to expand Medigap supplemental insurance to include all Americans with disabilities. HFA’s web-based Legislative Action Center sent over 1,176 messages to legislators in Washington, urging them to vote in the best interests of the bleeding disorders community.

In closing, the HFA is committed to its mission of advocating and assisting on behalf of the community. We invite YOU to get involved and help us achieve our vision of removing barriers of both choice of treatment and quality of life for those we serve.
