Destiny’s Story - A 12 year old’s advocate perspective.

Advocacy Intensives (“DC Intensives”) is the HFA’s newest advocacy outreach program aimed at equipping members of the bleeding disorders community with the tools of self-advocacy.  The goal of this program is straightforward: to inspire participants to take an active, grassroots approach to effecting change in their respective communities.

Participants are selected from HFA-member organizations to travel to Washington, D.C. to partake in intensive, hands on educational sessions about the political process and advocacy.   Topics includes: My Rights-My Country, Advocacy 101, How to Connect with Your Legislator and Building Media Connections.

During their time in D.C., participants will craft their “Personal Story,” which they then deliver in-person to their legislators, as well as identify the steps they will take in their own community to further the lessons learned in DC.

Are you interested in being a part of a DC Intensive?  If so, know that this program is tied to achievement.  HFA offers the growth and learning opportunity and you are challenged with the accountability to use what you learn!  We will look at success of the program itself and what you do with what you’ve learned over time.

If you are interested, contact your HFA member-organization or email us at programs@hemophilaifed.org.
