Helping Hands

HFA's Helping Hands program was launched in 1997 as a means of providing emergency financial assistance to those persons who have been affected by Hemophilia or von Willebrands. The program is designed to establish a rapid, non-invasive source of relief for emergency situations.

Unfortunately, due to the enormous financial burden placed on families living with a bleeding disorder, this is a common occurrence. Helping Hands funds are used to assist qualifying families with housing, transportation, utility and other one-time emergency needs.

HFA's goal is to provide a balanced program that evaluates and gives careful consideration to each applying individual/family with a minimum invasion of privacy. A referral to HFA's Helping Hands (HH) program must be submitted by one of the following:

  • HTC-Nurse, Social Worker or Physician
  • Private Physician
  • Local or State Chapter or Organization
  • Homecare Representative
  • Representatives from other National or Regional organizations established to serve the bleeding disorder community.

Once a referral is made, the applicant is required to submit a written statement of need, proof of emergent situation, and complete a phone interview conducted by the HH Coordinator. The application is then forwarded to an independent committee for review.
