Blood Sisterhood

For Women

Women with chronic bleeding disorders face unique challenges and life stress. From excessive bruising throughout life, heavy bleeding during menstruation, problems in childbirth, and unnecessary hysterectomies, women have a critical need to be diagnosed and have access to education in order to advocate for their own treatment needs.

Blood Sisterhood is a peer network of women who support women with bleeding disorders on their life’s journey through diagnosis, treatment and day to day living. Ultimately, through furthering the conversation among women, we seek better health outcomes and a better quality of life for women with bleeding disorders.

Some of the key elements of the Sisterhood include:

  • Promoting awareness of von Willebrand Disease, hemophilia, and other rare bleeding disorders
  • Fostering peer support among women and encouraging active communication
  • Providing education and tools to women so they may be informed participants in their own health care
  • Advocating for policy changes that improve the health outcomes of women with bleeding disorders

Blood Sisters unite their voices — in support, awareness and advocacy for women living with a bleeding disorder.

How to Get Involved in Blood Sisterhood:

  1. Register for Blood Sisterhood and join the network of women with bleeding disorders from across the country (Click here to download a Blood Sisterhood Enrollment Form)
  2. Join the Blood Sisterhood Private Group on HFA’s Online Community – a place for Blood Sisters to learn and support one another
  3. Participate in Blood Sisterhood National Webinars
  4. Encourage other women to join the network and spread the support!

What Blood Sisters are saying about Blood Sisterhood:

“HFA gave me the strength and the security to have my daughters get tested. And when I found out that both of them had von Willebrands it was not as scary as I thought it would be. I had a world of information and people to help us get through it.”  Lesa
